From Gol A
Gong’s writing hobby and his dream, Rumah Dunia built as a teenage runner.
In the
1980's when they want to learn the art and writing, Serang people have to
painstakingly go out of the city such as Jakarta, Bandung, and Yogyakarta.
According to Gol A Gong, Rumah Dunia is very helpful to people around to learn
the art and writing. Rumah Dunia is a cultural school-like in the field of
journalism, literature, film, theater, music, and drawing. Rumah Dunia was
found by Gol A Gong, with his friend Toto ST Radik and Rys Revolta. Rumah Dunia,
which is engaged in social and educational fields, is located in Kampung
Ciloang, Serang, Banten. This organization formally stood on March 3, 2002.
The writing
class held in Rumah Dunia is about journalistic and writing a fiction. In
journalism training, they taught about the techniques in journalism, including interview
practice in the field. At the end of training session, there is usually a task
group to create articles and also magazines. As for the writing fiction training,
they are taught about the techniques of fiction writing and its elements, such
as title, theme, idea, plot, characters, setting, conflict, and so on.
In Rumah
Dunia writing class, Mr. Gong also shares his experiences about the creative
process of making his novels, such as Mimpi Sauni, Hari-hari Angga, Balada Si
Roy, Pasukan Matahari, Honeymoon Backpaker, Traveler's Wife, and others. In
addition to offline writing class, or coming directly to Rumah Dunia, Gong’s
goal also opens an online writing class. For online writing class, there are
costs.
"Why
we named it Rumah Dunia? It’s because with the name Rumah Dunia – House of
World – it is neutral. For example, if we named it House of Darussalam, then
the non-Muslim people would think this organization for Muslim. We chose a
neutral word, so people from anywhere, any race, any religion can come to Rumah
Dunia," said Abdul Salam, Vice President of Rumah Dunia.
The mission
of Rumah Dunia is to enlighten and form a critical new generation in Banten.
The name, Rumah Dunia, contains the world's move to the house of philosophy
books, fine art, color, motion, and sound. Rumah Dunia is a platform that
functions and acts as a Community Learning Center in the fields of culture,
social sciences, and appropriate technology.
The philosophy
why they named it Rumah Dunia, it’s because they want to bring the children
come there to see the world from a house. There are many books there and we
take our children there to read books, so they can see outside of the world.
Most of
the mentors of Rumah Dunia are college students. There are 8 volunteers who
live inside Rumah Dunia, and all of them are men. Every night or every week
they hold a meeting to discuss programs. The books are originally from the
author, donation, and Gol A Gong. Since he was still in school, he liked to
collect books. From the collection, he gave it for the children to make them
read. With the establishment of Rumah Dunia, it is really helpful for Serang
people especially for the kids. So they can learn storytelling.
There are
theatres there which can amuse the kids. These are the regular activities every
Saturday night which usually held on a stage. The stage is usually filled with
art performances in the open theatre Tasik Kardi. Tasik Kardi is an open stage
in Rumah Dunia. It seemed Gol A Gong and Tias Tatanka gave the name of the
facilities exist in Rumah Dunia with names that reek of Banten Lama, for
example the open theatre Tasik Kardi and Surosowan Auditorium. The performances
on the stage can be different every night. Sometimes live music, sometimes a
drama, or a movie they can watch together.
There are
many items which are antique, become a decoration to introduce the traditional
era. According to Mr. Royani (Bang Roy) who lives near Rumah Dunia, says the
existence of Rumah Dunia has a side of advantages and disadvantages. The advantage
is the children can learn to read. But when Rumah Dunia also hold an event, it
make the atmosphere became very crowded so that people feel annoyed or
uncomfortable.
Apropos of
this fasting month usually at Rumah Dunia there are regular activities that is always
held, the name is nyenyore. Nyenyore, if the term of Sundanese people better
known by the name ngabuburit. Various activities conduct to fill the time for
Maghrib Athan, pending, sign the end of fasting, to reverberate. There are
books, there are surgical staging of the poem, there is a watercolour and
coloring for kids. And the most interesting is at the end of the event
Nyenyore, there's tajil. The ta'jil is pretty delicious. This house can be used
as alternative activities waiting for Iftar time. Surely it will be a lot of knowledge
that we get with this activity.
